How You Will Contribute
Your work will directly support the operational excellence of Veja Mate, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the German North Sea. You will help turn raw operational data into actionable insights that drive decision-making across technical and commercial teams. This means you will not only write code but also understand the business context behind the numbers. You will collaborate with engineers, asset managers, and data specialists to identify opportunities for automation and improved reporting.
You will be involved in the full data lifecycle: from extracting data from various sources, cleaning and transforming it, to building dashboards and reports that are used daily by the operations team. You will also have the chance to propose new analytical approaches and tools, and to see your ideas implemented in a real-world industrial environment. Your contributions will help reduce downtime, optimize maintenance schedules, and ultimately increase the energy yield of the wind farm.
- Develop and maintain Python scripts for automated data extraction from documents, APIs, and databases.
- Design and implement data models and ETL processes to consolidate information from multiple systems.
- Create interactive dashboards and visualizations using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or custom web frameworks.
- Support ad-hoc analyses for the operations and management teams.
- Document your work and share knowledge with the team to ensure continuity.

What You Will Learn
As a working student in digital transformation with a focus on data science, you will gain hands-on experience with modern cloud technologies and data engineering practices. You will learn how to work with large, heterogeneous datasets in a production environment, and how to apply machine learning techniques to solve real operational problems. You will also develop soft skills such as stakeholder communication, project management, and agile working methods.
You will be mentored by experienced professionals who will guide you through the complexities of offshore wind operations. You will have access to internal training resources and the opportunity to attend industry webinars and conferences. By the end of your tenure, you will have a portfolio of projects that demonstrate your ability to deliver value through data science.
Your Team and Work Environment
You will join a small, cross-functional team that values curiosity, initiative, and collaboration. The team is responsible for driving digitalization across the company, from automating manual processes to developing predictive maintenance models. You will work closely with the Technical Operations Manager and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver solutions that fit their workflows.
The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, but also supportive and flexible. We understand that your studies come first, so we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely part of the time. You will be based in our Hamburg office, with occasional visits to the offshore site or our O&M base in Emden.
