Your Role in Our IT Landscape

As Senior IT Manager, you will be the linchpin between our operational technology (OT) in the offshore wind farm and the corporate IT backbone onshore. Veja Mate operates a 402 MW offshore wind park in the German North Sea, with 67 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 turbines, an offshore substation, and an onshore grid connection. The IT systems that support this infrastructure are diverse: from SCADA and condition monitoring to meteorological data collection, communication links, and office productivity tools. You will ensure that these systems not only run reliably but also evolve to meet future demands such as predictive maintenance, cybersecurity hardening, and data-driven decision-making.

Your work will be split between strategic planning and hands-on problem solving. On any given day, you might be reviewing the architecture for a new remote access solution, coordinating with external service providers on a server migration, or troubleshooting a network issue that affects data flow from the turbines. You will report directly to the Head of Asset Management and work closely with the Technical Operations Manager and the Offshore Site Manager to align IT capabilities with operational needs.

Because our wind farm is located approximately 95 km from the coast, reliable communication is critical. You will manage the fiber optic and radio links that connect the offshore substation to our onshore control center, ensuring low-latency data transfer for real-time monitoring and control. You will also be responsible for the IT infrastructure at our onshore offices, including servers, storage, backup, and end-user devices.

Key Responsibilities in Detail

Your primary responsibilities can be grouped into four areas: system operations, project management, security and compliance, and vendor management.

  • System Operations: Ensure high availability of all IT systems, including SCADA, historian databases, weather forecasting tools, and office applications. Perform regular maintenance, patching, and upgrades. Monitor system performance and capacity, and plan for scaling as data volumes grow.
  • Project Management: Lead IT projects from conception to completion, such as implementing a new asset management system, upgrading network infrastructure, or integrating IoT sensors. Define project scope, budget, and timeline, and coordinate internal and external resources.
  • Security and Compliance: Develop and enforce IT security policies in line with industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, BSI IT-Grundschutz). Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (GDPR) and critical infrastructure requirements (IT-SiG 2.0).
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with hardware, software, and service providers. Negotiate contracts, review SLAs, and ensure vendors deliver value. Act as the escalation point for major incidents.

You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our IT processes, documenting procedures and training colleagues to use systems effectively. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders will be essential.

What You Bring to the Team

We are looking for a professional with a degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and at least five years of experience in a similar role. You should have deep knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs), and database administration (SQL). Experience with industrial control systems (ICS) or SCADA is a strong plus, as is familiarity with OT security frameworks like IEC 62443.

Certifications such as ITIL, CCNA, or CISSP are advantageous but not mandatory. More important is your ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain composure under pressure. Since you will interact with colleagues across departments and external partners, excellent communication skills in German and English are required.

If your profile does not exactly match all the qualifications but you are passionate about renewable energy and have a strong IT background, we encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and are willing to invest in training for the right candidate.

Our Work Environment and Culture

Veja Mate is a mid-sized company with a flat hierarchy and a collaborative spirit. Our team consists of about 40 employees from various disciplines, all working together to keep the wind farm running efficiently. You will be based in our Hamburg office, with occasional travel to the offshore site and to our O&M base in Emden. We offer flexible working hours and the possibility of remote work for certain tasks.

We believe in investing in our employees' growth. You will have access to training programs, conferences, and certifications to keep your skills up to date. Our benefits package includes a competitive salary, 30 days of annual leave, a company pension scheme, and a range of corporate benefits such as a job ticket for public transport, bike leasing, and health promotion programs.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we actively support initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint. Working at Veja Mate means contributing directly to the energy transition and helping to secure a clean energy future for generations to come.
